Enrichment

The Enrichment department provides a range of support services to Bronx Academy of Letters students, their families, and school faculty. Students will have an opportunity to match their various interests with several after school and summer enrichment opportunities throughout their years at Bronx Letters. To ensure that every student is meaningfully engaged during his or her out-of-school time, both during the school year and in the summer, the Enrichment department strategically recruits applicants for various opportunities. These areas include community service and volunteering, career development, travel abroad, internships, and college readiness. From summer jobs with Summer Youth Employment (SYEP), to travel abroad opportunities like the Learning Leaders  UC Berkley program, the opportunities are endless.

During the year, our students participate in regular field trips to arts institutions, community service centers, job sites, colleges, and universities. Our enrichment coordinator supports students with placement into exciting student internships, arts programs, community service opportunities, and pre college programs. Additionally, every Bronx Letters student travels annually as part of a series of grade-wide trips, whether to a local arts institution, an outdoor education camp, or to another city for a college tour.  Some examples of sites designated for trips are The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Modern Museum of Art, The 9/11 Memorial & Museum, The Bronx Zoo, The Museum of Natural History and City Meals on Wheels.

Annually, BAL supports the NYC AIDS Walk, this past May, Mr. Fernandez chaperoned over 25 students who took part in the 6 mile fundraiser.

Also in May, Ms. Huancayo took a group of 22 of her Spanish students to see the special Frida Kahlo Exhibit at the Bronx Botanical Garden, the first time many of our students visited the national landmark in our backyard.
